Hi, had something very similar happen a few days ago , on Saturday night at 7:45pm (9/17/11) in Milwaukee, WI.
My wife noticed 4 orange/red lights in the sky coming home from shopping. 4 craft total. 2 flew off and 2 came in her direction and then hovered.
She ran in the house for me to come out, when I got out there, I saw a rather big V shaped craft with 4 orange/red lights to it and another craft with a single orange/red light.
The V shaped one then had its 4 lights move and merge into a single light. There were then just 2 craft now with single lights.
They ended up flying off and were completely silent. Anyway, just thought I 'd let you know since yours is similar.
