Meteor Almost Orange In Color Shoots Across The Sky Over Burlington Ontario

Date:  August 24, 2009
Time:  Approx: 9:00 p.m.

I too saw the light in the sky. I'm in Burlington, Ontario and I was looking to the east toward Toronto. It was just past 9:00 p.m. when I saw what appeared to be a shooting star, but got brighter and almost orange as it fell.

It lasted for at least 3 seconds before falling behind a neighbors house out of sight, it was really low and to be honest, I was surprised I didn't read anything about a meteor hitting the ground? What was it.

Bright Bluish White Object Breaks Up Over Comox Vancouver Island British Columbia (Meteor - Fireball)

Date: December 8, 2010
Time: Approx: 6:00 p.m.

Dear Sir, I ran across your website while searching for others who might have sighted a really bright meteor/fireball over Comox at around 18:00 on 08 December. I think I might have seen the same object you did. I think it was a type of meteorite, what they call a fireball or bolide. I actually reported it to some kind of network, but have never heard back from them. Anyway, here's an excerpt of the report I sent in, see if it sounds like what you saw.

Best Regards.

Any reports of bright meteors or fireballs from Courtenay area around 17:30 - 18:00 on 08 December 2010? A colleague and I had an interesting sighting of what appeared to be a very bright meteor/fireball last night. We were returning to Comox on the Queen of Chilliwack, having caught the 16:45 sailing from Powell River. I don't know the exact time, but I estimate we were about 30 minutes or so out of Comox when the sighting occurred (we could see the lights of Comox ahead).

What we saw was a very bright bluish-white object which appeared to break apart into about 3-4 smaller pieces and left a long very bright trail. I believe it may have been visible for as long as 4-5 seconds. We were sitting on the port side of the vessel and so were more or less looking south when we saw it at. I estimate the object was moving toward the south/southwest.

I cannot say whether there was any associated sound because were were inside during the sighting and viewed it through the window. I am no astronomer, but I have seen a lot of meteors over the years. I usually make a point of sitting out for the Perseids, for example. This was by far the most spectacular thing I have ever seen. My colleague saw it also. Did anyone else report seeing something like this around the same time/place?

Date: 08/12/2010
Time: 17:30 - 18:00 PST

Cloud: Not sure - there was some, but it didn't interfere with our sighting.

Location: Sorry, I can't provide coordinates from a topographic map. We were sailing from Powell River to Comox on the Queen of Chilliwack. Sighting occurred when we were approximately 30 minutes out (i.e., offshore) of the ferry terminal at Comox.

If the vessel's bow is taken to be the end of the vessel that is pointing at Vancouver Island, then we were sitting on the left side of the vessel, looking roughly south when the sighting occurred. From this perspective the object first appeared in the upper left hand corner of the window frame, got brighter and began leaving trail that persisted for a few seconds; pieces broke off and then the whole thing gradually faded.

Beginning_azimuth: ~ NE.
Ending_azimuth: ~ SW.
Magnitude: Not sure - is there a visual chart one can use for comparison?
Moon: Much brighter - similar to how an arc welder would look about 10 m away.
Duration: ~ 4-5
Speed: medium-slow.
Flares: About 3-4 fragments broke off it as we watched, traveling at about the same speed and trajectory.
Colour: Bluish-white; (perhaps a bit of orange).
Train: Yes - it persisted for perhaps 3-4 seconds (an estimate).

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Huge Meteor Shaped Object Over Starbuck Manitoba Canada

Date: October 15, 2010
Time: 1:11 a.m.

Location of Sighting: Starbuck Manitoba Canada.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of Objects: 1
Shape of Objects: Triangular with rounded edges.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Waiting for microwaved beverage, I went to window and observed a heavy starred night. A huge meteor shaped object bright/silver/light flash either very close to earth or coming in to earth. No reddish flames or other colours, all silver and very bright light.

Object moved in the direction of north east ascension to southwest ground disappearing down behind the tree line. So fast possibly half a second. I was very shocked. I have seen lots of meteors/shooting stars out here in the country, but nothing this big. I have looked on the internet and local planetarium info for reports of this occurrence, but nothing has been reported as far as I know.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Bright Meteor Seen By Mom And Son Driving From Kelowna To Winfield British Columbia

Date: October 1, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:28 p.m.

Hi, I saw the meteor and I am 10. We were driving home from a hockey game at about 9:28pm. My sister saw a shooting star and that's when I looked out to watch for one too. I saw a plane and as I turned my head, I saw a bright thing hit the ground beside Holiday Park in where all the mobile homes are.

This is his mom now, we live in Winfield and were driving home from Kelowna and he started to freak out, he was tired, but swears he saw this bright thing flash beside the airplane and land somewhere near bottom Wood Lake Road. He was very excited and wanted to drive down there and look.

He has been on castanet today to try and find out if anyone else saw it as well, very cool that he found you on the computer. Of course I believe him, about 10-12 years ago I was driving to work in Richmond and just before the Massy Tunnel I saw this amazing bright colorful (UFO like) thing in the sky.

It was moving very fast and then sort of exploded and disappeared. When I got to work I started telling some co-workers what I saw and course they all thought I was crazy. I searched the computer to see if anyone else saw anything and a week later a friend of a friend had seen the same thing, bizarre. Anyways, we aren't crazy people, but my son just had to say he knows he seen the same thing you did.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Sapphire Blue Meteor North Of Kelowna British Columbia

Date: October 1, 2010
Time: Approx: 9:25 p.m.

I drove north on Dilworth Drive last night Oct. 1st, at about 21:25 as I saw this fantastic Comet coming down with an tremendous speed, at an steep angle (imagine a clock face, the line would be from 1 to 7) the color was an incredible sapphire blue.

The comet had quite a long tail, unfortunately the whole thing took just a split second, I was lucky to see it.

Brian Vike's Note: These sightings of meteors are of great interest to me and also helps eliminate folks reporting UFO sighting when in fact it may have been this spectacular colored meteor. If you did see this, would you please sent in a detailed report of the sighting, also add your town and country where you witnessed this, also the time is important. Also if anyone happened to snap a photo, please do send this also as well. Thank you, Brian Vike.

North Of Highway 401, West Of Highway 400, Toronto Meteor Sighting

Posted: February 18, 2009

Date: January 19, 2009
Time: Approx: 8:08 p.m.

Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1
Shape of objects: Resembled a falling star.
Weather Conditions: Clear night sky with some clouds, and it was cold, sub-zero celsius.

Description: Meteor Sighting

On Monday, 19 January 2009, I was driving north on highway 427 in Etobicoke ON, and approaching the eastbound ramp to highway 401, when I started watching a commercial passenger plane that had apparently just taken off in an eastward direction. As I was merging onto the 401, the plane was still ahead of me and slightly to the east. I'd guess it was a few hundred feet above the ground. It was approximately 8:08 p.m. when I saw what looked like a shooting star low in the sky, falling straight down, in a slightly westward direction. From my angle, it appeared to be slightly behind and below the passing plane. So at first I thought it might have come from the plane, but then later I thought it must be a meteor because the plane wasn't high enough for a dropped object to heat up from friction. The object was bluish-white hot in colour. So it probably entered the atmosphere from space and started burning up on the way down. I watched it for two or three seconds before it would have reached the ground. I didn't actually see it hit the ground, as it went out of sight behind the skyline of some low buildings. From my angle it appeared to have landed north and east of the Radisson Hotel in Rexdale, and to me it appeared to be quite close, maybe a kilometer or two away. However, it's hard to judge distance when you don't know the size of an object, so it could have been much farther. As I watched it fall, the object flared up and got brighter, and in the last second or so several orange sparks were flying off it in a sideways direction. I thought it might start a fire if it hit a building, or at least leave a scorch mark on the ground where it landed.

TV/Radio: I called 680 News in Toronto to report it, and the man said he had received three other calls about it last night.

I was in the Elizabeth Settlement, Alberta, outside of Cold Lake on the deck of the house and out of nowhere some fiery ball comes out of the sky and crashed. Then a bright light exactly like daytime! It was deadly, and after there was just sparks or something like that! Sent from my BlackBerry device on the Rogers Wireless Network.

Hafford And Whitkow Saskatchewan Witnesses Watch Meteor

Posted: November 25, 2008

Date: November 20, 2008
Time: Between 6:15 and 6:30

It was seen from Hafford Saskatchewan and my sister saw it from Whitkow SK. It was between 6:15 and 6:30. I never saw it, but my husband said he saw "sparks" land on our yard. It was dark and then it was like someone turned on the light and the yard lit up. My sister said the same thing - the whole yard lit up and she lives an hour away from me.

Thank you to the witness for their report.

Whitecourt, Alberta Meteor/Fireball Sighting

Posted: November 21, 2008

Date: November 20, 2008
Time: 5:30 p.m.

I found information about you here:

http://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/36243

I thought I would send you an email about a sighting me and two others had in the Whitecourt area in Alberta.

Here is a Google map of exactly were we saw it.

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=116355143661666216254.00045c36b25753cf9237d

The two with me were an 82 year old pastor and a 70 year old. Gentlemen not taken to fancy. And men with sharp eyes and wit. The sighting occurred at 5:30 PM MST in full dark.

We had just finished hunting on a lease sight and were slowly driving out over a bumpy field, heading West, when the driver of the truck, the 70 year old, pointed to something in the sky and said "Look at that". I was in the back seat of the truck and had to duck down to see. Off to our left (about 1 o'clock) I saw a very bright fireball with a green glow trailing it coming straight down to the earth. It disappeared behind a tree line (see map). It looked like it fell into the field behind the trees (the location of which I have on the map) maybe 500 yards ahead of us.

My first impression was that someone had fired an emergency flair. It was much brighter than any flair I have ever seen, the green glow was amazing, but the slow speed in which it fell towards the earth led me to believe this. Both men in the front seat asked how a flair was shot and I said it would have come pretty much straight up and straight back down. Both men then said it looked like it had started out as a falling star far in the NW sky and had zoomed across the sky before making its decent where I had seen it fall.

It was at this time I decided what we had seen was not a flair but something unidentified instead. We drove up to point B on the map and stopped the vehicle and opened our windows to listen. We did not hear anything and continued to discuss what we had seen. Both older gentlemen (I am 40) talked about how it had zoomed across the sky, getting larger, before it made its decent. I did not see this but both men agreed they had seen the same thing.

I know the older men were shaken and the driver asked the pastor if the bible said anything about UFOs. The pastor, who has an incredible memory of the bible, said it might and that it says "The heavens will shake".

No one mentioned driving out into the field where it looked like the UFO had gone down even I am sure it was on all our minds. We drove away instead.

What we saw never seemed to act intelligently except for the fact that its decent slowed as it neared the ground. I do not think a meteor would slow its decent.

I did a check on other similar sighting in the area and I found this page:

http://www.canadianuforeport.com/survey/data/9495data.html

There is more than one sighting on this page that sounds very similar to ours.

Take care.

Thank you to the witness for their report.

Summer Village Of Gull Lake In Alberta Fireball/Meteor Sighting

Posted: November 20, 2008

Date: November 20, 2008
Time: Approx: 5:35 p.m.

Hi Brian, I was looking on line for any information on a possible sighting of sorts as my son phoned me at 5:35 pm when he was on his way to work. He was on highway 12, 4 miles east of the Summer village of Gull Lake and he called to say he saw a huge fireball in the sky that was so bright it lit up the sky. I immediately turned on the radio and listened to see if there were any more calls from listeners possibly seeing it as well but there was nothing. We live in the Summer Village of Gull Lake in Alberta. My son is on night shift so when he gets home in the morning I will have him call or email you with exactly what he saw. He was pretty freaked out, like he couldn't believe what he just saw, I am sure he will be thinking about it all night at work. Hope this helps your research. Regards.

Rush Lake, Saskatchewan Fireball/Meteor Lights Up The Entire Area

Posted: November 20, 2008

Date: November 20, 2008
Time: Early evening.

Hi Brian, I have no idea where the meteor hit but it was HUGE! Just got in from driving home from BC. Heading to Moose Jaw, SK. and we were just going by the highway sign for Rush Lake, Sk. on the Trans Canada. There was a huge light and sound splatter like fireworks. It lit up our whole car and the field to my left (north). It was so close that we figured it had to be within ten miles of the highway. Ruled out a plane crash or oil explosion as the ball was large, fast and had a white blue tail before everything lit up like July 1st. We knew it was a meteor and have been looking to see if anyone knows what field it landed in. It was a science wonder!

It'll be fantastic to see what kind and where.

Thank you to the witness for their report.

Near Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Fireball/Meteor

Posted: November 20, 2008

Date: November 20, 2008
Time: Approx: 6:30 p.m.

Hi, my husband is an over the road truck driver. He called just awhile ago saying he saw a really bright meteor around 6:30 near Saskatoon. He said about 10 minutes later the whole sky lit up, like daylight for a few minutes, then went dark again. He wanted me to go on line to see if I could find anything about it. He also said lots of other drivers were on the CB Radio talking about it. I found your link and that's the closest thing I could find on it. I just wondered if anyone else reported the sky lighting up. Thanks.

Dalmeny, Saskatchewan Fireball/Meteor

Posted: November 20, 2008

Time: 6:25 p.m.

Another such fireball landed just an hour ago somewhere in Sask. I live in Dalmeny and saw it at 6:25 but someone in Lloydminster was talking to his wife and said he had seen it from there. He didn't say if it was west or east. People in the Radisson area saw it and said it appeared to land in the Maymont area, so I guess I'll quit searching! We didn't hear any sound and we were driving in a car at the time of sighting it.

Location of Sighting: Edmonton.
Number of witnesses: 1
Number of objects: 1 or 2
Shape of objects: N/A.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was looking East, when a huge fireball fell from the sky. It was orange and had a long green tail. It appeared in the direction East of Edmonton, and illuminated the entire eastern sky green. The object appeared to be travelling south from north at an extremely steep angle, almost straight at the ground. About a week ago, I also witnessed another similarly colored object fall from the sky in north of the city. It's angle was less steep, and a lot less bright.

Meteor Between Temiscaming, Quebec And North Bay, Ontario

Posted: October 31, 2008

Date: October 30, 2008
Time: Approx: 4:30 a.m.

Hi Brian, I was driving to work yesterday morning and saw what I would assume to be a meteor around 4:30 AM. I Googled it today to find out if there were any news reports or any other witnesses and your website came up with the Moose Jaw report.

It looked about 3 times bigger than a shooting star and much slower. It had an orange glow and a tail. There were no blinking lights so that rules out a helicopter. It was moving North across Hwy 63. When I saw it, I had already passed by the intersection of Hwy 533. When I got to work, I was talking with a co-worker and he saw it too. He was also in his vehicle so we didn't hear any 'boom'.

Just thought I would let you know about this and see what you thought. I thought it was pretty cool.

Thank you to the witness for their report.
