Time:  11:55 p.m.

I seen a orange glowing ball over the west end by 178 Street and 100 Avenue on Thursday August 9, 2012 at 11:55 p.m. It did the same thing, but without noise.

It floated for a couple of minutes then disappeared and reappeared 10 minutes later and few up into the sky

Red Object Flew Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  August 5, 2012
Time:  Evening.

Hey, I'm not a paranormal type of guy, but won't throw out the possibility of UFOs. Anyway, I just Googled "red object over Edmonton" and your blog came up.

I wanted to tell you that I also just about 15 minutes ago sighted a red round type object in the sky just north of the airport. I live just off 50th street and Elerslie.

The object moved slowly away from my position, but jotted off to the right a few times (not like  typical aircraft) at the same time, there was an actual aircraft flying what looked like towards the object.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Date:  August 5, 2012
Time:  Approx: 10:10 p.m.

I saw the same the tonight(05/08/2012) approximately 10:10 p.m. it was located north of the airport (Leduc) in Edmonton, Alberta.

It was moving away from me at a slower speed, but jotted off to the side a few times unlike any aircraft. It was like a burning red color.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Date:  July 26, 2012
Time:  10:00 p.m.

We were going for our nightly walk at 10:00 p.m. when my husband said look at that. It was round very bright dark orange yet seemed to turn dark red.

Very quiet crossing from the west then south then it seemed to stop and turn east over the ocean where it just disappeared.

We watched for a good 5 minutes. This was July 26, 2012.

If you have seen anything like this in the same area please be kind enough to contact Brian Vike at: sighting@telus.net with the details of your sighting. All personal information is kept confidential.

Three Glowing Orange Colored Balls Of Light Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  July 7, 2012
Time:  Approx: 9:45 p.m.

At approx 9:45 p.m. my three friends and I seen three orange glowing balls in the sky they were lit up and slowly disappeared into the sky. We had a intuition that it was something so today I decided to Google lights over Edmonton and came across this site.

Google says someone else seen, but I can not see the post. One of my friends will be emailing you to confirm she seen it too. Someone else I was talking to had said around that same time they had herd a noise that sounded like a heavy bass line on 100,000 watt speakers.

Please can you get back to me this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Round Red Slow Moving Object Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  June 15, 2012 and June 28, 2012
Time:  Approx: 10:00 p.m.

I came across your posting through Google and I just wanted to let you know that my husband and I and one neighbor saw an object in the sky approximately June 15th 2012 in the night sky and again June 28, 2012 approximately 10:00 p.m.

We saw this object twice. It was round and moved slowly, but steadily across the sky. It was round and almost like a glowing red object, with a yellow type light in the middle of it.

We were able to see if for approximately 2-3 minutes. It was very quiet and not that high in the sky, we could see it perfectly? It was very strange looking.

Orange Glowing Lights Seen In The Sky Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  May 5, 2012
Time:  Evening.

We were just sitting in our yard around a fire in Edmonton, Alberta when our attention was drawn to glowing orange balls in the sky. At first there were two that disappeared and then another one that was floating north.

As we were watching, that one disappeared and another one was coming from the south heading north. We know it was not a star or a satellite. They moved too fast. My husband took a video of the last one as it moved, which did not turn out too good.

When I checked the Internet I came across your information so I decided to send you what the four if us witnessed. Do you know what they were?

Bright Stationary Light In The Sky Over Edmonton Alberta (Possible Venus)

Date:  March 25, 2012
Time:  9:45 p.m.

Just saw the same described light in the sky. 9:45 p.m. from my apartment in Edmonton. It was definitely stationary and not a star, too close for that.

Noticed it in the western sky. Would really like to know what it is.

Two Eyewitnesses Get A Great Look At Orange Colored UFO Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  December 24, 2011
Time:  Between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

Hi, I'm sorry my report is so late after the date of occurrence, but I feel kind of obligated to corroborate what others saw this last Christmas eve/morning in Edmonton over the Riverbend area.

To be specific, I was in the Terwillegar Towne neighborhood with my ex-girlfriend when we saw it. I see a previous post mentioned 4 orange lights in a row over the same area, heading in the same direction (roughly south to north).

That description fits my own observation except for the formation of the 4 lights, they weren't in a straight line (row) when I saw them. I'll describe it in better detail:

My girlfriend at the time was house-sitting for a family that was on vacation for the holidays. I went to visit her there that night so she wouldn't have to spend Christmas Eve alone. We were watching TV in the basement when the dog (whom she was taking care of as part of the house-sitting duties) started barking.

We thought maybe the dog had to pee again, so we went upstairs and let it outside in the back yard. While waiting on the porch for the dog to finish doing its business, I looked at the sky and noticed an orange light near the south-south-western horizon moving steadily towards us.

It was still quite distant at this point and I immediately assumed it was a plane or helicopter. However, it caught my attention because of its orange color. I had seen that orange in the sky only once before, and that was 5 or 6 years earlier when a big group of my friends and I saw a strange orange sphere flying erratically over Lac La Biche one summer.

That was my only other sighting, but I never reported that one anywhere or took it particularly seriously as we were all University students at the time drinking and celebrating summer.

Anyhow, the orange colour caught my attention because it reminded me of my previous (and only other) sighting. I pointed it out to my girlfriend and said "hey, look at that light".

She looked at it, but didn't think it unordinary or even worthy of comment. And I didn't either. I still assumed it was a plane at that point. But while she watched and waited for the dog I continued to watch the light approach to see if it was a plane or if it was a helicopter.

About 40 seconds later it was now close enough to see that it didn't appear to be either of those things. I thought it might be one of those paper-lantern hot-air balloon things people launch for special occasions.

After all, the object seemed self-illuminated from an internal source, the coloration looked just like a candle behind paper, it had a 'weightlessness' to its movement, and being Christmas eve, it certainly was a special occasion.

I had never seen a flying paper lantern before (though I'd seen videos of them on YouTube) so I once again turned my girlfriend's attention toward the now much closer light, asking her "what is that light anyway?". We both watched it, and as it was much closer and still unidentifiable she was now as captivated by it as me.

It was difficult to judge its speed, size and altitude, but I can say this much, it was flying at a height quite a bit lower than a commercial airplane. I would say somewhere around the height that the police helicopter in our city fly’s at (whatever that may be).

It was relatively low. It was round and I guessed its diameter to be about the length of a car. And I would say its speed was perhaps 60 kilometers per hour. However, with that being said, I should probably report that my girlfriend disagreed and thought it was somewhat bigger than my estimates and that it flew a bit higher (but we both agreed it was much too low for a plane).

Its trajectory was fixed in a linear path from south-south-west to north-north-east, and it passed almost perfectly directly above us. It flew at a smooth fixed velocity at a fixed altitude, and it seemed more like it floated or hovered like a balloon or helicopter more than it seemed propelled like a plane.

As it flew directly over us, we had a much better view of it. It was a solid glowing orange (absolutely no flickering or pulsating), and wasn't just a light so much as the object itself was glowing or self-illuminated. It was perfectly circular from below, and seemed circular during its approach too which leads me to believe it was spherical in shape.

Once I was directly below it, I could faintly make out an 'X' or 'cross'-shaped marking on the bottom, two bars crossed at 90 degrees and meeting at the center of the sphere, perfectly marking the orange circle off into 4 equal parts (like a pie cut horizontally and then vertically).

This marking indicates there was either an X-shaped device hanging from below the orange sphere, or that the orange sphere was actually 4 glowing objects traveling in a very tight grouping so as to almost appear as one object. But to be completely honest my first impression was of something hanging below it, and not 4 objects in a tight circle.

Even less distinct was a spinning motion around the object, but much less faster than a helicopter blade would go. Whatever was spinning around it, was not lit and was as dark and black as the night sky, so I can hardly be sure that I saw something, but I definitely thought there was something spinning around it.

The object was completely silent, and it was an incredibly quiet night to begin with. It made no noise at all (unlike a plane or helicopter). From the moment I saw it to the moment it passed over us and out of sight beyond the other side of the house couldn't have lasted more than 4 or 5 minutes, but may have been as short as a minute or two (I'm afraid I can't remember any better than that).

We had no sense of fear or foreboding upon seeing it, but rather curiosity and later excitement when we both agreed it was a flying object that neither of us had any plausible notion for identifying it with.

I don't think my girlfriend ever believed in UFOs before, and certainly never expected to see one in her life (and I definitely never expected to see a second one in my life!). But after witnessing that object she could not deny that she had seen something rare and unusual.

I wish I could remember the specific time this sighting occurred, but it was likely sometime between 9:00 p.m. and midnight.

Anyway. I'm not the type to believe I saw anything alien, but I also know that what I saw was out of the ordinary. I hope documenting my account can lend credence to others who may have witnessed the same thing we saw, and maybe in some way help determine and solve the exciting mystery that is the identity of that orange object!

Thanks for your time!

Hi, I ran across your sight looking to see if anyone else saw what I did last night.

Around 8 o'clock last night I was driving to Edmonton from Edson, Alberta and saw a green ball fall out of the sky.

It was off in the horizon but looked quite large. Only lasted maybe a second. Was really strange.

Bright Flash Orange Object And Then Purple Circular UFO Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  February 21, 2012
Time:  Evening.

Hello, I am emailing you because of the posts about the sightings last night. I seen it too. I am a 22 year old single mom, was just going to catch the number 12 bus to Northgate last-night on 132 Ave, and 119 Street.

When I got to my bus spot, I looked up for whatever reason and saw this white flash than what appeared to be something falling (maybe on fire because it was orange)

I was in shock, I looked to the left and saw a purple circular like object flying around (it was not a plane or helicopter as the movement was impossible for one our planes to do), for about 30 seconds before it disappeared over the trees and houses.

After that a couple helicopters flew around the area I saw it in. I have never been one interested in this area, aliens, UFOs, etc., actually I’m a catholic and I’m having a hard time explaining this through my faith.

When my bus arrived, my bus driver was freaking out as well asking me if I had seen anything strange in the sky.

He saw the white flash and the object falling from the sky as well. Very scary. Just thought I would write you as I came across your website, because I am totally freaked out.

But thanks, I do not know what you will do with this information, but just thought i would put my sighting in there.

Green Lights Flying Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  February 21, 2012
Time:  Evening.

HI there! My boyfriend just called me from work (he works for CN Rail Edmonton) last night he said he saw green lights and what seemed to have light up the clouds from behind.

Today on the radios everyone was talking about it, as others saw this too or saw the lights!

They think it is a meteor shower that might have landed in Saskatchewan, but aren’t sure! I wish I could have seen it! He’s a huge skeptic, but I’m not.

Oblong Shaped Object With Blue Purple Changing To Green Red To Purple Again Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  February 21, 2012
Time:  Approx: 7:30 p.m.

February 21, 2012, travelling off of 127th and turning left unto 137th Ave, I saw a oblong shape that at first had a central bright light at the front with three lights in back.

The lights were blue to purple changing, green to blue, and red to purple.

As I witnessed it driving up to the red light, I asked my teen daughter and the driver what I was witnessing to my right (as I pointed to the sky, as my finger touched the passenger side window.

I began to tell them what I saw and said I know it wasn't a helicopter as they do not hover like what I was seeing, nor do they have the shape and lights as I described.

I also said it was not an airplane either as they don’t fly that close to the city and hover about a spot as such. Then the central light went out and the three other lights dimmed and formed more of a triangular red light pattern that interchange to make the object appear to spin as it hovered.

That was about 7:45 p.m.

Red Amber Colored Object With Lime Green Flame Seen Over Edmonton Alberta

Date:  February 21, 2012
Time:  Approx: 8:37 p.m. - 8:40 p.m.

Later in the night, after dropping teen off of 137 th Ave, Boston Pizza by 121 St., at about 8:37 p.m. - 8:40 p.m. I drove and I travelled down 153 Ave and 103 to 104 St., We witnessed in the sky a falling object that seemed to manifest from out of nowhere.

It was a red, amber forefront light with green light/flame that if we held our hand out to the sky with a Toonie in our hand, that was the diameter of what we witnessed 'fall or crash to the earth' like it was held down and not arching or falling like a fire work.

It had a straight path. It was a part of a circular object on 2/3 of the object. It appeared in the sky and disappeared as it headed southeast, towards the river valley to past Rundle area, so we guestimate.

We hope others can testify to this account as we know it was something spectacular to see. An awe inspiring event as it was definitely not a meteor. Thanks.

Bright Light Seen Over Edmonton Alberta (Venus)

Date:  Mid February 2012
Time:  7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Every evening west of Edmonton, we see a "star-like" object in the sky. It seems very close and very bright, but as it moves further west, it starts to get smaller, change colors and then it disappears.

We watched it from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at which time it just disappeared.

I live on the 17th floor of a high rise building and we get a pretty good view with the naked eye. Wish I could see it with a telescope. Any idea what this may be?

Shaft Of Orange Light Seen In The Sky Over Edmonton Alberta (Case Solved – Light Pillar Ice Crystals)

Posted:  January 16, 2012

Vike Factor Note: Recently a number of sighting reports came from folks who reside in Edmonton, Alberta. People reported seeing a strange vertical bright orange beam of light in the sky over Edmonton Alberta.

I wasn’t sure what the people were/had seen so I started looking around the internet to see if there was a reasonable explanation for what was observed.

For me, two ideas came up, one thought was that people may have seen an “Aurora/Northern Lights” and the other possibly was a “Light Pillar”.

After researching a little more, I found that the “Light Pillar” was going to make more sense as to the cause for this sighting that took place on January 11, 2012 at approximately 11:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

I therefore, wrote an email to the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton, Alberta and the Edmonton Sun newspaper. I was hoping one or both parties might be able to help in solving this mystery.

First thing Monday morning I received a nice response from Mr. Frank Florian B.Sc., B.Ed from the TELUS World of Science and he confirmed my thoughts on the light as being, a “Pillar of Light”

Below is Mr. Frank Florian’s reply to me:

Hi Brian, you are correct in your assumption that the effect of the vertical shaft of light was due to ice crystals.  We just had a cold front move into the Edmonton area bringing temperatures down to below -20 Celcius and many individuals saw various atmospheric effects from the ice crystals that formed in the air, everything from Sun pillars and Parry Arcs during the day to light pillars off street lights and other bright light sources in the evening.

Here is an email I received from a fellow Royal Astronomical of Canada (RASC) Edmonton Centre member who took a photograph of a Sun pillar and Parry arc with a website that describes the phenomenon:

Vike Factor Note: Here is the website address, but I have not included the photo.

Member of the Royal Astronomical of Canada (RASC) comment: I took this at 4:06 January 15, 2012. Sun pillar capped with a Parry arc. More about Parry arcs here: http://www.atoptics.co.uk/halo/parry1.htm

Also below, is another sighting report on the vertical light with photos an eye witness filmed.

Pillar Of Light Filmed Over Edmonton Alberta (Pictures)

Date:  January 11, 2012
Time:  Approx: 11:30 p.m.

Number of witnesses: 2
Number of Objects: 1

Full Description of Event/Sighting: Orange vertical light in sky, looked like the sky was opening up. It was really bright, almost pulsating. Too big to be a ship I think, but it was defiantly unexplainable at least to me.

I took two pictures, but they are really grainy as my camera is not made for night time. The two pictures are © 2012 Steven Townsend.
