Date: March 11, 2007 Time: Approx: 8:15 p.m.
Location of Sighting: Toronto, 401 Highway Number of witnesses: 2 Number of objects: 1 Shape of objects: Ball of fire.
Full Description of event/sighting: I was driving from Ajax to Toronto at approximately 8:15 pm on Sunday March 11, 2007. I noticed a very large bright object moving extremely quickly across the horizon. It was travelling south-south-west as near as I could tell. And by quickly, I mean faster than any plane could ever travel.
After maybe 2 seconds it seemed to explode into flames and continued on at the same speed and in the same direction. The ball seemed to disappear across the horizon and did not seem to be descending. It almost seemed like the point of entry for a large meteor was right above Toronto.
Not only did this alarm me but several other cars in other lanes on the 401 began swerving and/or slowing down.
I've seen falling stars. This was like a falling star but about 1,000 times larger than any I've seen and travelling many, many times faster. It seemed to cover the entire horizon in about 4-5 seconds. And one could see the actual yellow flames as it began to burn up.
It's been about a week now and I still cannot get the spectacular image out of my head. It was beautiful and terrifying all at once.
Anyway, once I arrived at my destination, I learned that the friend I was meeting had seen it as well. He was actually quite shaken up by it. He had been driving in to Toronto from Unionville.
Is there any reports on this meteor or whatever it was? If so, did this touch down on earth anywhere or would it have burned up before landing?
Cheers.
Thank you to the witness for the report.
