UFO Man Looks For Ghost Stories

October 30, 2002.

ALL HALLOW'S EVE Legend has it that the souls of the dead are closest to the living at this time of year. Oct. 31 is the date of the Celtic New Year, Samhain, when the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is the thinnest and the souls of those who have died during the year bid farewell. Maybe that's why our thoughts turn to ghouls and ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

Or maybe it's the longer nights. Whatever the reason, ghost stories - especially "true" ghost stories - hold an irresistible fascination for many readers. Surprisingly few published reports of hauntings originate from northern B.C., however.

"There's lots of stories around - it's getting people to talk," says Brian Vike, the northwest's resident researcher on the paranormal. Vike, who lives in Houston, B.C., is collecting true ghost tales for his new journal, The Canadian Communicator, a publication devoted to topics like UFO sightings, lake monsters and sasquatches, hauntings and crop circles.

His first issue explored one ghost story in detail, but it came from Ontario, says Vike, who's better known as a UFO investigator who's tracked down an impressive number of first-hand accounts of UFO sightings from northwestern B.C. residents. But so far, he's investigated few local ghost stories.

"I know they're around," he says. "I've been trying to gather some from around here." Vike has now collected more than 100 UFO reports from people in Terrace, Smithers, and even Seward, B.C. The majority stem from a string of sightings across Highway 16 earlier this year. He's also a frequent guest on radio shows - local, regional, national and even international [one Mexican interviewer provides a simultaneous translation for his listening audience when Vike appears on his show]. Ghost Stories From Ontario Canada

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Hi Brian, we have a couple of ghost stories amongst my family members and my husband and I.

1. When my Mother was a child, her my Grandmother used to chastise her for throwing a ball up and down the stairs leading to the second floor of the house. My Mother wouldn't stop it, and she stood at the top of the stairs and let the ball drop so it would bounce down the steps. My Grandmother appeared at the foot of the stairs before the ball arrived and all of a sudden it bounced  back up the stairs to my Mother. My Mother was a mere child, I wasn't even thought of then, but it freaked her out so much that she told my Sister and I this story when we were youngsters.

2. Another story that my Mother told my Sister and I, took place when our Mother was but a child. She was with her Grandmother and Grandfather, my Great Grandparents and all of a sudden they all heard the wolves outside. My Great Grandmother opened the door and threw out some salted pork, the howling eventually stopped, this was in winter, it was later in the night when suddenly there was a knock at the door and it was a man who was begging for a drink of water.  My Mother has often wondered if that man was somehow responsible for the howling that had taken place earlier in the evening.

3. My Mother-in-Law died and she has been talking to us via our coffee makers ever since her ashes arrived in our home.  We have gone through many coffee makers and have found no other excuse other than they are being used for some unknown soul to communicate with us. I know it sounds weird, but every coffee maker would make buzz noises long after the brewing was done and we'd say, "hi mom!" and the buzzing would continue for awhile. Some coffee makers were not even plugged in and would turn themselves on. My husband and I witnessed that, spooky eh?

4. In one of the houses we lived in, I was in the basement where the laundry machines were and I was reaching for an ashtray when all of a sudden it slide across the counter and to my hand. There was no condensation, wetness under the ashtray, nor was the counter on a slope. Lightbulbs were always bursting in that house too.

5.  We  have moved from the above mentioned house and I'm un aware of any ghost visits, our new coffee maker will at times flood the counter with coffee when there's no known excuse for it not to fill the carafe instead, between my husband and I, we can't figure out what we have done to cause the flood, it's really irritating, also this new coffee maker doesn't buzz at all, it just makes messes. hehehe.

BOOOOOOOOO!

Thank you to the witness for their story.

Poltergeist Experience In Northeast Kansas Town

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

As a child, my family lived for five years in a turn of the 20th century home in a small town in northeast Kansas. There were multiple experiences over those five years in that house. Most of it was of a poltergeist nature, with objects unexplainably falling over of their own accord.

On one particularly noticeable occasion, my brother and I were watching television, in the middle of the afternoon. At that particular time, the television was situated in the corner of the family room, facing in the direction of an archway, and beyond that to a wooden staircase that led upstairs.

As we were watching television, out of the corner of our eyes, we both witnessed the same event. A picture that was hanging on the stairwell wall, halfway up the staircase, came sliding off the wall downward at a 45 degree angle, and crashed onto the landing at the bottom of the stairs.

On another occasion, our mother witnessed the sound of a little girl crying in the middle of the night. As we had two sisters sharing a bedroom, she went to see which of them was crying.

She actually walked into their room twice in response to the crying, only to find them both sleeping soundly. When she returned back to her bedroom on the third trip back, the crying sound moved down the hall, and came to a stop at the door of her bedroom.

She could hear the crying sound, but could see no one standing there. Our family dog, who had been sleeping beside my parents bed, suddenly began to growl, looking in the direction of the door. To this day, some 40 years later, we are all still firmly convinced we lived those few years in a house that had a ghost presence.

Recently we have shared these experiences via email.

Thank you to the person for sharing this interesting, a freaky story.

Family Ghost Story From The 1940s Onward British Columbia

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Hi Brian, I will send you a separate email so you know who this story is coming from.

I noticed your category for ghost stories and thought I'd add a bit to your collection.  However please be forewarned, it is not dramatic. No chains or moaning!  More like just an unusual family member.

My family has always had  ghosts.  As a young boy living in Vancouver and Alert Bay my father sometimes saw people who were not there and my mother once watched a group of people disappear right in front of her. She was 15 years old and walking down a street near her home in Vancouver. Coming towards her on the sidewalk but on the next block, was a group of about a dozen people.

The first thing she noticed was their odd clothing, very old fashioned.  She then realized that although they appeared  to be talking and laughing there was no sound of voices or of feet on the sidewalk. They reached the corner of their block and turned down the side street just before my mother reached the end of her block. She looked around the corner and although they should have been just a short distance away there was no sign of them. For people who live in Vancouver this was in the Kits area around 4th and happened about 1930.

When  my parents married in Prince George in 1942 they built a house near the south side of Connought Hill. In those days that was quite far out of town and  very quiet, particularly at night. During the winter of 1943 the ghost arrived.

It announced its arrival by walking up the steps to the front door shortly after my parents went to bed. They could hear the footsteps squeaking in the dry snow as it came up the stairs right outside the bedroom window. No matter how quickly they jumped out of bed and looked out the window they saw nothing unusual. However within 10 minutes of going back to bed a hazy white light about four feet tall would drift past the bedroom door. It never seemed to do any harm and they eventually got used to it.

In the summer they never heard it arrive but one of them would notice it go by and calmly comment that the ghost was back. Mom used to wish there was some way of getting it to do housework if it was going to be wandering around all night! Three years later we moved to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and dad built another house  that we lived in for 12 years.

Sure enough, before long the ghost was again drifting  through the hallways.  Then for several years it was gone until one night I awoke to see it float past my bedroom door. The next morning my mom was a bit excited.  Before I could say anything about the ghost she said "Guess what? The ghost is back and this time I saw it take a shape!" She had woken up to see a white hand and arm reaching towards the bedside lamp.  Thinking it was my dad she reached out and turned on the light. Of course there was no one there and my dad was deep asleep.

We then moved to Victoria and this time we rented a house instead of building one.  It took the ghost about six months to join us. Over the years my parents rented four more houses before buying the one I live in now. Yes, the ghost went with us to every one of them. It was never more than just a white haze until the late 1960's. Then it took on a very familiar shape.

One afternoon my parents were sitting in the living room when Timmy, our Border Collie, walked through the room and down a hallway toward the bedrooms.  As he went by he gave them a rather unusual look. A few minutes later they heard him barking.  He was outside and wanted in.  He never had been in the house and walking through the room. No, there were no open windows or doors. My parents checked!

The ghost was changing and not always for the better! A few months later my parents were again in the living room when they heard a loud crash in  the kitchen. They found that a big bottle of wood stain that was normally at the back of one of the upper kitchen cabinets had somehow come out of the cupboard (the door was still closed) the lid removed and placed on the counter and the bottle thrown against the opposite wall. However, as that was the worst damage that it ever did, we all just accepted that it was there and pretty well ignored it.

Just as an aside, around this time my parents saw two people disappear on the sidewalk outside the house. One afternoon they happened to notice four people walking along the sidewalk, two women in front and two men very close behind them. They were dressed in oddly old fashioned clothes and were bunched so close together that mom and dad thought the men would be stepping on the ladies dresses.

For a very brief moment they were out of sight as a tree blocked part of the view from the house. All four went behind the tree and only the two women came out. The tree was near the house, nowhere near the people.  The women did not appear to notice the men were gone. There was nowhere the men  could have gone and dad even went outside to look. Nothing.

Many years later my younger brother was visiting our house with his wife and baby.  I was married  no longer living there. They were staying in the bedroom across the hall from my parents. During the night my mother suddenly awoke.  A few minutes later the baby started to scream.  Just as my brother got up in the dark to see to the baby, a basketball sized  ball of light shot down the hallway.

Immediately the baby stopped crying. Everyone was so startled they all got up and went into the living room. There, even with the lights on, they saw a couple of smaller balls of light bouncing near the ceiling in the corner of the  room. It was very brief and then they were gone.

As the years went by the appearance changed.  My mom died and dad still lives with us in the house.  He and I have both seen a new shape.  This one is shaped like a very narrow black hockey stick (not my idea of a ghost at all!) and darts around very quickly.

I saw it first on Christmas Eve in 1992 but never mentioned it.  A few days later my dad told of an odd black shape he'd seen darting through the house. The description matched exactly what I had seen. Other than changing size from tall to very short it doesn't really do very much except run around.

As I said at the beginning, our ghost is not dramatic, thank goodness!  I would not be surprised if lots of people have similar "beings" but don't even really notice. However there were some rather strange, unsettling and dramatic events that took place during this time.

One ghost (or angel?) even saved my life. Right now is not the time to go into it all but if you'd like I'd be happy to give you the details at a later date. Closer to Halloween perhaps!

Now, in spite of the fact that I say the ghost didn't really frighten us, it is getting late, I am home alone and there is no light in the house except from the computer screen.  I think I'd best stop for now before I start to hear strange noises !  I'm not quite as brave as I like to think I am.

Thank you to the person for the wonderful Ghost experiences.

Witness Watches Bright Light Travel From Wall To Wall In His Bedroom At Carp Ontario

Date:  1989
Time:  Evening.

Hi, I read your story about seeing a strange craft in Carp many years ago. I lived just outside Carp from 1986-1991 on 2.5 acres of country property in a small subdivision.

In 1989 I was 12 years old and one evening I was laying in bed, not asleep yet in my room on the second floor of our house. My window faced west.

Out of nowhere and without any sound, a very bright light travelled from one side of my wall to the other. Our house backed on to acres of trees.

I shot out of bed and looked out my window for a few minutes, and saw nothing. I have always wondered what it was.

If anyone has had a UFO/UFOs sighting, please send me an email at sighting@telus.net or fill out the online UFO report form at http://sightings1.yolasite.com/ with details of what you saw.

Dogs Senses The Presence Of A Ghost

Posted: February 15, 2008

Hi Brian, You asked for ghost stories so here come some more! Actually this is about three different dogs and three different ghosts.

We all know that animals sense things that we humans aren't consciously aware of. That is why when a dog sees a ghost you really know something strange is there!

The first story is about my German Shepherd/wolf cross. In Victoria where I live there are many locations known to have resident ghosts. A popular location for ghost hunting is the Oak Bay Golf Course, isolated, quiet and looking out over the ocean. One night my mother and I decided on a whim to leave the house about 11 P.M. and go look for the ghost. We took my dog with us. After an hour of sitting in the car and staring out over the golf course we had seen nothing at all resembling a ghost. We decided to give it another 10 minutes then go home. I then noticed a white haze forming across the greens and near some bushes on the edge of the ocean. So did my mom. We both acknowledged that what we were looking at could be normal fog or even our active imaginations. Then suddenly from the back seat my dog began a low growl. I turned and looked at him. He was on his feet (he'd been asleep up until then) hackles up and staring at exactly the spot we'd been looking at. The white haze was getting thicker and the dog was getting more agitated. Mom and I looked at each other, looked at the dog and then looked at the white fog slowly becoming more solid. We left!

The second dog story took place in Yaletown in Vancouver. My daughter lived in a seventh floor condo with her Border Collie. She had a corner condo and her windows looked down four floors to a storage locker building roof across the alley and along the alley below. Late one night she awoke to the sound of her dog barking non- stop in the living room. This was very unusual. Her dog seldom barked and had never barked indoors. The alley below was often very busy as it was a convenient shortcut. She had heard parties, fights and gun shots but it had never bothered the dog. Concerned she got up and found her dog staring at the window overlooking the alley. She would not stop barking until my daughter got quite firm with her. She then continued to quietly whine. Of course my daughter looked out the window to what was disturbing her dog. She opened the window so she could see the full length of the alley. Right away she heard two women talking. She also very clearly heard their footsteps. The only problem was there was no one there. For security purposes that alley was very brightly lit and there were no alcoves or doorways that a person could stand in. As she listened and watched she heard them walking towards her from the far end of the alley, pass right under her window and then continue to the end of the alley and around the corner. Although she could hear them very clearly talking and laughing and their foot steps, which sounded like they were walking on wet pavement (it was dry), there was no one in sight. The moment they "appeared" to walk around the corner the sounds stopped and the dog stopped fussing and curled up and went to sleep. The dog never again barked in the condo and my daughter never again heard the sounds of invisible people.

My last dog story took place near a large city in mid Canada. I am purposely vague about locations since the man who told me this story is reluctant to talk about it and I don't want to say anything that might identify him. I know him very well and have absolutely no reason to doubt his story. It happened several years ago. For reasons that aren't important to the story he, his wife and three dogs were staying in a very large but empty campground for a couple of months. Their tent was quite far from the others and on the edge of a large field. One evening the dogs were restless and not interested in eating or playing. When my friends went to bed the dogs, who were tied right outside the tent, had a hard time settling. Shortly after midnight the dogs started to whine and growl and the man got up to see what was going on.

He noticed the dogs were looking out across the empty field so he looked that way as well. The sky was clear and there was a bright moon shining. At the far edge of the field he saw a woman slowly walking towards them. She was easy to see in her long white dress. She was walking slowly but definitely in their direction and the dogs were jumping and spinning in their agitation. The man's first thought and concern was that it was another camper who was sleep walking. As she was obviously heading directly towards their tent he wanted to intercept her before she got tangled with the dogs. He walked a little way towards her then noticed something very strange. The field was not flat. It had bumps and hollows but she was floating across all the hollows. She was just above the ground. By now the dogs had given up barking and were huddled together whimpering. The man just stared, then realized the woman would be passing in front of the car. He waited until she was directly in front then reached in the open window and turned the headlights on.

She instantly disappeared, the dogs sighed and went to sleep. He looked around, went back to bed but stayed awake. His wife slept through the whole event was quite annoyed the next morning to find out what she had missed. The lady in white never returned and the dogs never had another bad night.

Hope you enjoyed the stories!

My First Ghostly Encounter - And Was It Freaky !

Posted: February 15, 2008

Hi Brian. I hope this finds your well. Your site looks great and I do hope it will be around for a very long time. Thanks for being there for every one of us that has had encounters.

Anyway, it is rather quiet UFO wise, (thankfully). I still spend a lot of my time searching trying to find out what the full agenda is that is taking place..with regards to UFOs and extraterrestrials..I will have to share my thoughts with you some time on that.

But for now, I thought I would share a experience that I had years back. It was my first Ghostly encounter in my life.

This happened to me a number of years back. I was in my home town and my buddy had asked me to move to his town and hang out for a while. I kept putting it off. Then one day, I had nothing going on and I thought, ahh sure what the heck. So I moved 4 hours away one hot June afternoon.

I pulled onto the street of my soon to be new place where my buddy was already residing. As I got closer to the house I noticed something white laying on the sidewalk by the grass in his yard. I pulled up in front of the house and got out of my car. I then walked around the car and saw that the white thing was his young cat laying there dead. The heat was incredible for June. It had been 30 Celsius all that week and that day wasn't any different. I slowly walked over to the cat and touched it, it was ice cold, not cool, but ice cold dead. I went to the door and knocked. My friend opened the door happy to see me until I said, "Umm, I think that's your cat right there". Needless to say that he was very distraught over the situation. It was a quiet week as I moved my stuff in and got settled.

One week after moving in, I started to notice little things. I would pick up movements from my peripheral vision and when I would turn towards the movement and there would be nothing. Things became more obvious as time continued. If I went to another room and came back, there would be things that had moved. At first, I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me. Then things started to become more predominant. First it was small things, like a glass of coke on the opposite end of the table from where I had left it moments before I left the room.

Then as timed passed more things started to happen. I would leave a room then come back, only to find that everything had been strewn around, papers, couch cushions end table pushed out from the couches.

I didn't say anything to my friend as I didn't want him to think I was strange, lol. So I continued to experience all these oddities that I had no explanation for. One afternoon, I was sitting with my friend and his girlfriend in the main floor living room. We were watching T.V. when I started to hear things, well not exactly things. I heard someone walking around up stairs right above me. The sound was coming from my bedroom. The sound was of hard soled shoes walking around. I took the remote and turned down the volume. My friend looked at me and said, "What? Why did you turn that down"? I said "You can't here that"? He looked at me strange for second. I said again, "Can't you here that"? He smiled and said "you here something"? I said "yes". "someone walking around"? he asked. I said "Yes". He then said "you haven't met the ghost yet"? I was sort of in shock from his response. I said "Ghost"? He said, "Yes we have one".

I listened for another minute. I could here it so clearly I knew exactly where in my bedroom the sound was and could follow it as it walked around. I got up and went upstairs to investigate the sounds. When I went there I couldn't see anything out of ordinary.

More time passed and more things started to happen. I would wake up in the night to sounds of pots and pans being banged around in the kitchen. I would sneak downstairs quietly and hear all the banging as I stepped towards the kitchen. I then would turn on the light and all the banging would instantly stop. Things would disappear then show up in strange places, like a hair brush in the freezer or a book in the oven. The biggest thing that disappeared happened one afternoon. I came home and was alone there. I went up to my room and was going to listen to music. My cassette tape case was gone. It was fairly big, it held 40 cassettes. I searched the whole house 3 times over and each time ending back in my bedroom. On the 3rd time around I gave up and thought that someone had stolen it. I went back up stairs to my room. There in the doorway, the tape case was just laying there. Had it been there the three other times I was up there I would have stepped on it. I most certainly would have had to walk over it to get in the room.

That was when it really hit me. The capabilities of this ghost. I picked up the case and sat on my bed. Lost for words and very overwhelmed by the whole thing. Holding the case thinking, wow, something actually had possession of this and had it somewhere whether it be in our world or not. It really hit home, so to speak.

By now my life was nothing but one big adventure. I was always wondering what this entity was going to do next.

It started to play games with me, doing things that would have to make me move and change it back. I could be sleeping and suddenly my bedroom light would turn on. I would have to get up and turn it off. I would just get back into bed and the light would turn on again, this would continue all through the night over many, many nights.

Another time it was around 10 or 11 at night and I was up in my room reading. I heard my doorknob turning and looked up as the door opened up. I was thinking that my buddy was there or something. No one was there. I got up and walked over shut the door and then went back to reading while sitting on my bed. Suddenly the door would fly open again. I would get up and shut it, making sure that it was closed tight and go back to my book. This continued for about 2 hours. I then got tired of getting up and left the door wide open and went back to reading. A few minutes into my book again the door suddenly slammed shut with much force. It scared the heck out of me. I think it got mad that I wouldn't play it's games.

Another night I was reading and I looked up for a minute to rest my eyes from the hours of reading I had done. I looked up from my book and noticed a flag that I had hanging straight down from my ceiling by my bed was starting to wave back and forth. I had 2 other flags beside it also hanging straight down from the ceiling. I found it odd that it was moving as there was no air movement in the room. My window and bedroom door were both closed. The movement continued across the bottom of the flag. Soon the whole flag was waving. It continued onto the next flag the same way, then to the third flag. I sat there my mouth wide open I am sure. All 3 flags were now flapping like in a strong wind. I was very mesmerized by it. After a few minutes they started to calm down. The exact reverse of how they started. It was now about 4 or 5 months that I had been there and I was very accustomed to all the happenings by then. It was very normal to have it all going on all around me all the time I slept.

I was awoken late one night to snapping sounds. The best I could describe it, is the snapping of electricity. I sat up looking around towards the far side of the room. I then looked over toward the bottom of my bed. My heart jumped into my throat as I looked over towards my feet. There at the bottom of my bed was a foggy apparition that looked like and old man. he was not very tall maybe 5 feet high but he was very old. He was hunched over, holding a walking stick that looked like a thick crooked tree branch.

I sat there not believing my eyes. He then turned his head towards me and looked right at me. We both were motionless for what seemed forever, but I am sure it was only a few minutes. I then started to hear the electricity snapping again, all around me. I quickly looked around the room to see what was what, then back to the entity. It was starting to fade away and in about 30 seconds it was gone.

I laid back down, but didn't sleep for a long time, my heart was racing and I thought maybe there would be more things happening. There wasn't, and I eventually went back to sleep.

The next morning I told my friend what I had seen and he laughed. He only heard sounds. He never saw anything happen the entire time he was at the house. A few days later, I will never forget this. My buddy, his girlfriend and I, were all sitting in the living room. It was a Friday evening about 7 pm. We were sitting around making plans for the weekend. All of a sudden there was a loud BANG. The best I could describe it, as a shotgun going off in the same room. Like an explosion. It was so loud. Everyone jumped. I looked over to my buddy and he was white as white can be. I got up running to the stairs then up to my room. It seemed that most of the occurrences were based around my room. My buddy closely followed. As I got to my room I stopped dead in my tracks, my friend ran into me. There in my room, where my bed was, there was a hole in the wall. It was a hole I had never seen anything like. It was rectangle. About 2 1/2 feet by 1 foot. It was total rectangle but it all went into 1 point. Like if you had tight bed sheets and pushed your finger into it. It went in like that. Just to 1 point in the center of the rectangle.

I left that evening. I said it was to violent now and I have to go. I went and stayed at a another friends place for month. I then went back to my home town, 4 hours away.

It was years later. A friends car had been stolen and ended up in the city where the house was. I went along for the ride to get the car as the police had recovered it. I told my story on the 4 hour drive there. I hadn't thought about it for years.

The car was in a compound and we went to see if it was drivable. It wasn't. So we left. My friend turned up the street as we left the compound yard and we drove along. The next thing I knew I was back, right in front of the house. The car we were in had stalled out directly in front of the house. I will add that I was not driving and I did not even have a clue where we were until I looked over at the house. I was in shock. I had a very eerie feeling over me, goose bumps, hair standing up. Not a nice feeling.

The house had been planned for renovations since I left as it was a war time house. But what I had seen was no front step. The front door was a board, the windows were board. I got the feeling it didn't really want me in there. We tried to get the car started and it wouldn't start. We got out and pushed it thinking we could push start it, seeing that it was a standard. We got off the same block as the house and the car started right away with the ignition.

We left and went back to my hometown. 4a.m. we got back home and I called my buddy that I had lived in that house with. He had left that house 2 weeks after I did. I told him I had been in town there earlier and ended up in front of that house.

He responded by saying "Bet you wish you were living there now huh"?. He said" It looks really nice now huh"? I told him what I had seen and he laughed. I thought, maybe he was pulling my leg. So I hung up and called another friend in that same city and told her that I had been in town by the house. She responded almost the exact same way adding that it was such a nice looking house now. I hung from that call and thought for a while. I decided to put it all behind me again.

It was years after that incident that I was in the same city again visiting a friend that had just moved out there. She was driving when all of a sudden she took a quick turn. I knew exactly where I was, the house was coming up again. I freaked, I said. "What are you doing?. Why did you turn here"?, she said "I don't know". The car stalled out at the beginning of the block of the house. I said, "That's it, we have to get out of here". I got out and pushed the car back off the block and away from the house. It started again first try. I said, "Go...Go the other way. So she did. I then told her my story.

That is just one of many experiences in my lifetime so far, one big paranormal movie and I have UFOs and ET to contend with as well. Seems never a dull moment in this life.

One thing I learned at a very young age. Things certainly are not as they appear to us.

Take care, my friend.

Thank you to the person for the wonderful and freaky story.

South Vancouver, British Columbia 1903 House And A Ghost

Posted: February 15, 2008

Date: 1983 Time: Approx: 9:00 p.m.

Location of Sighting: South Vancouver. Number of witnesses: 2 Number of objects: 1 Shape of objects: Walking figure of a man in a longish old style tweed coat and flat tweed hat.

Full Description of event/sighting: Hello Brian, you asked for ghost stories and I happen to have had a very strange, unexplainable thing happen at my house years ago. It was approx: 9:00 in the evening, and my wife and I were sitting in the living room of our 'just bought house'. We had only just moved in a few months previously. Our house was built in 1903 and was the first house built in our neighborhood, back when it was mostly farmland and orchards. We had just finished dinner and were sitting watching TV and relaxing after a hard days work at our respective jobs. All of a sudden we heard a loud scraping noise coming from our basement area, and our cat came flying up the staircase all puffed up and looking completely insane and terrified at what he was seeing. He was staring bug-eyed at the basement stairs, and from where I and my wife were sitting, we couldn't see the area that the cat could.

I jumped from my chair and ran into the kitchen where 'Hugo' the cat was now spitting and growling madly at the top steps. I was in the process of trying to calm the cat down, when out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement, and as I turned to see what it was I saw the back of the figure of a man wearing a longish tweed coat and a flat old styled tweed cap moving through what was our open bathroom door into our bathroom. I stood speechless watching this 'person' disappear across the bathroom and into our toilet area, with no apparent legs, it was just drifting over the floor. I yelled to my wife what I had seen, and after finally calming down a bit, I felt I should phone my father and see if everything was alright with my parents. For some reason I thought I was seeing some kind of premonition of someone's demise, but everyone was fine at my parents house. I told my Dad what I'd seen and we talked about it for a bit, and he suggested I make a search downstairs in the basement, and check the floor joist patterns and see what was once built in the area directly above and into what is now our bathroom.

I did and found out that before the renovations and the added on back part of our house, the back stairs had once been located directly where the bathroom door now was situated, and whoever it was I saw that night, was walking out on to a long gone staircase, and out into our back yard. We've lived here now for 24 years and have had a couple of other 'supernatural things' happen, but never another sighting of the old guy in the tweed coat and hat.

Thank you to the person for telling this awesome story.

Southern British Columbia, A Ghostly Apparition

Posted: January 23, 2008

I had found an eagle feather when I was living in the southern part of BC. I put it on the coffee table with a crystal, and it not only looked good, I could pick it up and feel it whenever I had the urge. The eagle feather, I read, was a sacred object and was to be treated in this way.

It stayed there, with the crystal for a week before I had an event. It had been raining all day, so not being able to keep my eyes open anymore I went to bed.

Sometime later, I awoke to find the feather touching my face and then receding away and then touching my face again. I could see this because of the lightening outside. There also seemed to be an outline of a hand holding the feather.

Again, I only wondered what the feather was doing and fell fast asleep. Come morning I ran into the living room and the feather was there. I pondered this, but put the crystal on it so it could not fly into my room again.

I still have that feather today. It has a special meaning now.

Thank you to the person for the story.

Vancouver, B.C. Haunting Story From 1955 to 1958 (But Solved)

Posted: January 23, 2008

Hi Brian, Your query re. Ghost Stories brought to mind something that happened to me a long time back. From 1955 to 1958 I delivered the Vancouver Sun newspaper from 41st and Oak north to 32nd. Oak to Laurel. This was in the city of Vancouver for those who don't know. Vancouver in the 50's was still only partially built up with houses and large blocks were still covered with second growth forest. At that time the area bounded by Oak St. to Laurel St. and from 37th. Ave. north to 33rd. Ave. was part of Langara Golf course. Later it was made into a High School. Around the outside perimeter of the Golf course was a band of trees. I believe with the intent to keep flying golf balls from flying across the street and striking the houses and a few pedestrians. There was one strip about midway up the driving range where there was a gap in the trees and several hundred feet of long grass dividing the course from the street and if it was a nice day I would often sit and watch the golfers and make a note of where their balls landed.

I would sit and watch as they hunted in the grass for their balls getting more and more frustrated. Finally I would get up and go and locate it for them this would always be rewarded, usually 25 cents which was a lot of money in those days. Some days I might take in two or three dollars which was a lot more than I got for delivering the paper. During the day I loved the area, but once each month I had to go back at night when I had to make my collections. Then those trees around the golf course would sometimes take on an eerie and sinister and sometimes menacing appearance, especially in the Fall and Winter when it got dark early. That's when I would rush to try to finish my route before it got to dark. The incident I recall took place in the Fall of 1957, I had gotten a late start making my collections and by the time I got as far as 33rd. it was already after 11:00 pm as I was reminded several times by irate customers who had been gotten out of their warm beds. Anyway that night it was really black with heavy rain and the wind was blowing almost gale force and the racket coming from all those trees was rather unnerving. Remember, I was just a teenager at that time. When I reached 33rd. there was a one block stretch with trees and bush on both sides of the road before I reached the houses again. I would always ride my bike down the centre of the road and do it at a good clip.

This particular night I had just reached the first of the houses when I got the feeling someone was calling me. I turned around and saw what appeared to be a tall slim woman all dressed in White from head to toe like she was wearing a cloak. She was standing about ten feet back in the bush and appeared to have one arm raised as if she was beckoning me. It was quite dark around her but she just seemed to glow. My first thought was she was a ghost the second the Virgin Mary. No, I am not particularly religious, just that is what she looked like. I only had three more blocks to collect from so I disturbed all my remaining customers just as fast as could and then beat a hasty retreat for home. On the way I met my brother who had been sent out by my father to search for me as it was about midnight by then. The next day was more of the same sort of weather and I was rushing to get finished. I never thought about the lady until I was already at the houses on 33rd. then I turned around and there she was still beckoning and still glowing in the dark. I realized that she could not even be seen when you were on the road next to her location due to the bush and it was only when well past that there was an opening into her little clearing.

I decided right then and there that I was going to do my route in the reverse direction the next day so I could be there during daylight. Luckily it cleared somewhat the next day and was still quite light when I got there. From across the street it still looked like a woman, but as I got closer I soon realized it was just a stump about six feet high. Someone had peeled all the bark off of it and the beckoning arm was just a jagged piece of the stump. As I stood there looking at it I soon found why it appeared to glow in the dark. The one solitary street light chose that moment to come on and the light from it managed to penetrate the trees to hit right on that stump. Now I knew what it was but still for the remainder of the time I spent delivering papers in that area I would still avoid that spot the best I could. Even knowing, it still gave me the creeps to look back and see her calling me back.

Thank you to the person for the story.
