UFO Man Looks For Ghost Stories

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article

October 30, 2002.

ALL HALLOW'S EVE Legend has it that the souls of the dead are closest to the living at this time of year. Oct. 31 is the date of the Celtic New Year, Samhain, when the veil between the physical and spiritual worlds is the thinnest and the souls of those who have died during the year bid farewell. Maybe that's why our thoughts turn to ghouls and ghosts and things that go bump in the night.

Or maybe it's the longer nights. Whatever the reason, ghost stories - especially "true" ghost stories - hold an irresistible fascination for many readers. Surprisingly few published reports of hauntings originate from northern B.C., however.

"There's lots of stories around - it's getting people to talk," says Brian Vike, the northwest's resident researcher on the paranormal. Vike, who lives in Houston, B.C., is collecting true ghost tales for his new journal, The Canadian Communicator, a publication devoted to topics like UFO sightings, lake monsters and sasquatches, hauntings and crop circles.

His first issue explored one ghost story in detail, but it came from Ontario, says Vike, who's better known as a UFO investigator who's tracked down an impressive number of first-hand accounts of UFO sightings from northwestern B.C. residents. But so far, he's investigated few local ghost stories.

"I know they're around," he says. "I've been trying to gather some from around here." Vike has now collected more than 100 UFO reports from people in Terrace, Smithers, and even Seward, B.C. The majority stem from a string of sightings across Highway 16 earlier this year. He's also a frequent guest on radio shows - local, regional, national and even international [one Mexican interviewer provides a simultaneous translation for his listening audience when Vike appears on his show]. UFO Expert Joins Next Hunt For Ogopogo

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

By David Wylie

Sterling News Service.

Kelowna – A group of Ogopogo hunters are planning a third major quest to find the monster they believe lurks in the depths of Okanagan Lake – this time in the company of a well-known Canadian UFO expert.

Brian Vike, who researches alien sightings and encounters from his home in Houston, B.C., appears regularly on radio shows across Canada and the U.S. to discuss aliens with a listening audience of about 3 million. He said he doesn’t necessarily believe in Ogopogo, but there have been enough sightings to take the mythological creature seriously.

“They’ve been doing this (the searches) and it’s not a hokey operation. They spend a lot of money,” said Vike.

Some of the big talk radio shows in the United States wanted to carry (the expedition) live. It’ll be great for tourism”, he said.

Experienced Ogopogo hunter Bill Steciuk said the wide-scale scientific search is planned for mid-August 2004.

The team will use three boats equipped with sonar, remote-controlled underwater video equipment and divers to try to locate the creature.

Why? It was time to do a scientific search. Why do you climb a mountain? Because it’s there. Why do you hunt Ogopogo? Because there’s something in the lake,” he said. “We’ll find it and we’ll get pictures of it.”

There have been thousands of sightings, including some from influential citizens, like doctors and business people, he said. Steciuk said he also believes there’s more than just one Ogopogo.

“This is a species,” he said.

Nearly 50 people helped during the first searches in 2000 and 2001 – both trips resulted in sightings and a 45 minute documentary on the searches was released earlier this year. The expedition and filming cost totaled more than $250,000.

A third major expedition planned for last August was cancelled because of the Okanagan Mountain Park fire.

August is an ideal time for the search because there are fewer watercraft on the lake and the weather is usually clear, Steciuk said.

“The majority of sightings, if you go back 100 years, are in and around the middle of August,” he said.

Another Witness For The Orange To Yellow Object Over Iowa City Iowa (Diagram)

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  August 26, 2010

Time:  Approxamtlty 9:35 p.m.

Yes, I saw this object while leaving my mother's residence at about this time on this date.

See the attached (crude) drawing based on my recollection.

I saw an orange light or orange circular object, traveling roughly from south to north in the northeast sky, on a course that was very regular and smooth, at a speed that would be consistent with a satellite.  The diameter of the orange object was 2-3 diameters larger than Jupiter, which was also visible.

There were no associated twinkling lights of any other color.  There was no "trail" or sound associated with it.  I have seen many satellites at night in the sky, and I know the difference between a satellite and a airplane.

This caught my eye because it was not clearly one or the other.  A guy who was walking his dog at the time (at about the intersection of Mormon Treck Avenue and Walden Road) also stopped to look at it, so it was clearly something unusual.

I could not track it all the way across the sky.  In other words, I did not see it from horizon to horizon.  I lost it (or it "disappeared") while it was still high in the sky.

My guess is that this was some sort of atmospheric lensing of a bright satellite.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

4 Orange Lights Over Cincinnati Ohio (Second Report For This Sighting)

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  October 22, 2010

Time:  Approxamtlty 7:50 p.m.

Good Evening, about one hour ago about 7:50 pm I witnessed what I believe to be a UFO of some kind. I was driving south on I-71, I saw 4 large bright lights, they would disappear slowly like a fading candle or match. Then would reappear just as bright after a couple of seconds. They did not appear to be moving, just staying stationary.

They were in a line, fading in and out, there would be 4 then 3 then 2 then 1 then none. Then 1 and then I lost it in the tree line. I read up on this and seems to be a reoccurring phenomenon. Some say it's parachutes for the pre game football at UC,

I believe this lights to be way to large for a human. I would love to hear if you have more info on this, it was just awesome to see tonight. Thanks.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Moon Sized UFO And Missing Time For Husband And Wife On Holidays

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  Late August 1977

Dear Brian, here's a experience involving the moon. We left for vacation driving at night from Vegas to Colo, this happened in late August 1977. We left the house about midnight, took the old Salt Lake Highway out of Vegas and had just crossed from Nevada into Utah. I was watching the sky as usual and I remember it was full moon and things were very bright, for some reason the desert really lights up in moon light and we could see a long distance.

I had been looking out the back window, (at this point in my life I didn't actually know for sure why I was always so watchful of the night sky.) I did know there were a lot of sightings in my life from the time I was a teenager and later remembered another when I could been no more than 8 or 9 years old.  Once I remembered the abductions it really went back to pre school, with what I thought was skeletons around my bed at night. I think it would be easy for a child to mistake greys for skeletons.

At any rate I was looking at the Big Dipper laying low in the sky and the moon was coming up farther to the east. When I turned back facing forward I noticed for a second what looked like the moon to my right higher in the sky, I realized it should not be in that position. I spoke to my husband, he didn't answer, he stared straight a head like he was in a trance. I grabbed the arm rest and rolled down the window to see better. It wasn't the moon as it was descending at a pretty fast rate, but it was a large round white light that looked to be the shape of a ball coming down toward us.

The next thing I remember was waking up with my head laying on the bottom of the window as it was still down, at that point all I knew is it was still dark. I thought I had fallen asleep, we shortly found out that may been true, but it was no where near normal nap. What ever time of night it was, I don't recall, I do recall it was pitch black, there was no moon and we were still in the desert.

We soon discovered we were lost, we went for miles in what appeared by the stars to be the wrong direction because there were no other roads we could find to get any bearings what so ever. We certainly were not on the highway we were on previously, we didn't know what state we were in, I guess we drove for fifty miles before we saw a sign that said Utah on it, we were on some back road still with no direction as to where we were.

About the time the sun was coming up, we found out we were headed east, instead of west still in Utah and had to drive another fifty miles to get back on the highway we had been on when the trip started. We got back on the highway we started on, then stopped and got breakfast about seven I believe in Cisco Utah. That's not real far from our destination in Colo, so we drove on there arriving about noon. The friends we were visiting, were about frantic, they wanted to know why we didn't call and let them know we were going to leave a day later than we told them, in other words we were a day late.  I checked their calendar and sure enough, we were some where for a full 24 hours neither of us remembered anything about.

Try explaining that to people that know nothing of UFOs, at that point I knew we had been abducted, problem was I didn't want to face that and just dropped it, saying we must have sent them the wrong date of arrival. Now it's one week later and as usual my husband wanted to drive at night because of less traffic, I wanted to leave earlier and be some where by dark to stay the night, we ended up leaving after dark. I've wondered since, if that thought was put in his brain and certainly not by me.

We got to Cisco, Utah about midnight, for a half hour or so before that a bright, white round light had been moving with us on the horizon to our left side above the canyons, we couldn't tell how far away it was at night. My husband suggested we stop for some pie and coffee in Cisco, we were there maybe half hour forty five minutes. We came out on to the main highway and shortly we saw this object again in the same location following us along and we were driving way over the speed limit.

Neither of us said anything. When we woke up, we were driving into our house about two AM, how we got from Cisco, Utah to our house in Vegas two hours later was something someone needed to explain. Well turns out it wasn't just two hours later, it was a day and two hours later, we went to bed not knowing that and about seven the next morning the phone rang. They were wondering where my husband was, as he had to be at work that day, thing is we left a day early so we would have a day to rest before going to work and believe me I'm very sure of that. So as I said, we were a day and two hours later getting home on the return trip. I to this day have no memory of what happened in those two days, I'm not sure he did or not he refused to speak about it. Take real good care my dear friend.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Houston British Columbia Home For Sale

Our lovely home is for sale in Houston British Columbia. As much as we would like to remain in northern B.C. our family has all moved south so we have decided to do the same.

It's such a pretty spot in the back row of the park, with a private, fenced and gated backyard that looks out onto a field where the deer and moose often come to visit. We have been feeding them in the winter now for a few years and they look forward to the food supply.... and of course we love seeing them come each day and enjoy the goodies.

Newmarket, Ontario Light Seen For A Short Period Of Time

Posted: August 28, 2008

Date: August 25, 2008
Time: Evening.

Again out for my bike ride. I now pay far greater attention to the skies after seeing this weird light twice now. My entire ride was very uneventful, nothing unusual. As I approached my house, I again notice the strange bright light. This time it did do something different.

As I was headed east, and I noticed the light to the north-east heading south, and close to the horizon, only about 30 degrees above the horizon. The previous 2 sightings of this object, the object was moving towards us and almost directly overhead.

This time it behaved very different. Previously it had traversed the entire sky and faded into the distance, both times taking about a minute or so. This time I only managed to see it for about 10 seconds. It was traveling south, almost across my line of sight. As I slowed down to get a good look at it, it was only about 40 degrees above the horizon (less than half way across the sky) when it simply disappeared. I stopped and tried to see if any trace of it could be seen. There was no moon so it was very dark, I could not make out any object against the stars in the location it was in, or in the path that it was headed. It was as if the light was simply shut off, and nothing could be seen afterwards.

I am by no stretch of the imagination a nut case. I am a computer programmer by trade and I am very logical.

I have no idea how big, how high, or how fast it was traveling. I can tell you this though, if it was as high as a Jumbo Jet (35,000-40,000 feet) then it was travelling at least 15 times faster than a jet and about 30X as big. If it was in orbit, 2,000+ Kilometers, its size would be at least 200x the size of an average visible satellite, and moving at least as fast. If it was lower than either of these, say 5,000 to 10,000 feet, then it would be a much smaller object (about 50 -100 feet) and moving 5x as fast as a small airplane, but dead silent.

I do not know what I have been seeing, but I have never seen anything like it! I have seen planes, helicopters with search lights, comets, meteors, falling stars, and satellites. This was absolutely none of those.

I hope someone else has been seeing this thing and can shed some more light onto what it is! Or at least what they "think" it is.

Like everyone else, I'm just looking for answers. Wish me luck.

Thank you to the witness for their report.
