A Frightening Close Encounter With A UFO Between Nanaimo To Campbell River British Columbia Canada (Diagram)

This sighting report was never posted !

If anyone else saw this event, would you please drop me an email with your details on what you saw. Thank you very much, Brian. Email: houstonbri7@gmail.com

Date:  September 2009.

Time:  9:30 p.m.

My name is (removed). My experience happened in September 2009, but I just found you now.

My friend and I were driving home from Nanaimo to Campbell River, British Columbia. We were on the highway at about 9:30 p.m. about 20 minutes away from Hamm Rd. The skies were super clear and crisp.

We were chatting and had the music on, etc. Throughout the drive we both noticed 2 little lights way in the distance kind of hovering around, but very far away. We both didn’t think much of it and carried on chatting.

Out of no where, about 20 feet above her car was 2 huge bright lights (bluish-white) with orange glowing on the sides, below the light were 2 metal looking structures hanging down like 2 arms. We drew a picture when we got home, but it is kind of hard to explain, my first thought was it was a flying vehicle.

Everything was silent, the music was no longer playing, her car wasn’t making a noise, we were going simultaneously with these lights, it was like a magnet with her car. If we got out and threw a rock we would have hit the object that’s how close it was.

We were both in like some sort of trance, I felt for my phone to take a picture, but I just couldn’t take my eyes off of it. After about 30 seconds of staring, I yelled out "WHAT THE F*** IS THAT?" and it was gone. I looked back and the 2 lights were way in the distance hovering around, jerking movements almost very far away.

We both were freaking out confirming with each other we had just seen and experienced the same thing. As we turned on to Hamm Road the 2 lights were closer again hovering over by the trees with it’s lights shining on the trees.

I called the police when I got home and they said "you’d be surprised how many weird phone calls we get about that area". She seemed kind of weird about it and said it could have been the government doing testing. Didn’t  make sense to me.

The next day I felt really weird and so did my friend. Anyways I would love to hear back from you. I think about what happened this night every once in a while and felt like I had no one to talk to about it.

If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Additional Information:

Hello Brian,

I was just going through some old e-mails and realized that I never replied to your e-mail back in 2012! I noticed the e-mail address you used back then is no longer active, but I was able to find your current e-mail. I am so sorry to be getting back to you almost 10 years later.

My friend and I were talking about our experience as we do every so often as years go by and I remembered e-mailing you back then. Attached is a photo of the UFO that we saw. The drawing isn't exact but the best I could do to depict what we saw. As for the answers to your questions.

The blue/white light did seem to engulf the car, the lights were so bright and the spotlight was on the car. The sighting of the UFO up that close to us lasted for under 1 minute but we saw the object before and after the up close sighting as 2 lights off in the distance kind of hovering.

Yes, the car was moving with the UFO after it lost power. My friend and I still see each other all the time, we are best friends and talk every day. We don't believe we had a missing time event, but if I didn't yell out when I did I am not sure what would have happened to us.

The days following the sighting we both felt the same, glum, detached, backwards, no energy, etc. Neither of us had any medical issues after the event although around this time period I started to have stomach issues that still affect me to this day.

I would be so interested to know any other thoughts you have about our sighting. Thanks so much for your time.

Thank you to the witness for their report.

Flying Object Could Have Been A Helicopter

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

By Neil Horner – Parksville Qualicum Beach News.

Published – March 30, 2012 8:00 a.m.

Mysterious object seen by several more people in Oceanside area.

The report of strange lights in the sky over Parksville last weekend could well have been a helicopter, says UFO researcher Brian Vike, except for one important detail.

The object, seen by two witnesses between 9:30 and 10:10 p.m. on Saturday, March 24 night, made no sound.

“When I originally posted this, a fellow in the area wrote and suggested it might possibly be a helicopter,” Vike said in an interview Tuesday. “He said there is a clearing near there where they take off and land — and the lights sound like normal navigation lights on some sort of aircraft — but what bothers me is them being right beneath it and not hearing anything at all. Helicopters have a very distinctive sound. You can’t miss it. It’s loud.”

The sighting was witnessed by three others in Qualicum Beach, who read about it in The News and subsequently contacted Vike.

“I was surprised to hear that others saw a similar object that my son, husband and I witnessed from our back patio,” said one witness. “It was really large, triangular-shaped, with bright coloured flashing lights and very high up to the right.”

The woman said the object appeared to be just over a mile away and there was no sound of a helicopter audible.

“It was definitely not a helicopter, since the flashing lights were far brighter than the market lights of any helicopter I have ever seen,” she said.

Another witness from Qualicum Beach said the object first appeared at around 7 p.m. over Mount Arrowsmith.

“We too saw strange lights on Saturday night,” the witness said. “We were looking at Mount Arrowsmith and saw lights moving up and down the mountain. They were at different altitudes, separated by what looked like, several hundred feet. We saw white and red lights moving and thought it was very strange.”

Vike said he has no explanation for the Parksville sighting, but he’s hopeful that either other witnesses or someone who knows the origin of the  lights will contact him at houstonbri7@gmail.com

That’s No UFO . . . It’s A Space Station

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

Advocate Staff.

July 7, 2010 1:25 p.m. News.

A UFO investigator says there is a perfectly logical explanation for a set of strange lights being reported in the night sky in Central Alberta.

A handful of people from the area, including one person from Blackfalds, have contacted him after seeing a bright light moving across the southern sky. Adding to the intrigue, a dimmer light was seen following it for awhile, as if attached, and then suddenly darting away.

No worries, says Brian Vike, a self-taught UFO researcher from Houston, B.C., and creator of the web blog, The Vike Factor, Into the Paranormal.

Conditions have been perfect for watching the International Space Station and, from time to time, the space flights that deliver its supplies. That is most likely the dimmer light that was seen following the space station and then seeming to dart away, Vike said on Tuesday.

People living close to Red Deer can see the space station for themselves on Thursday.

The station will appear lightly over the west-southwest horizon at 10:35 p.m. But make sure you’ve got a good angle on the horizon and don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

Information posted on the NASA’s Skywatch website has it up for only three minutes, reaching a maximum height of 27 degrees.

Depending on where you’re watching from in relation to the space station’s orbit, it can be directly overhead on some nights, said Vike.

Internet users interested in finding out when the space station will be visible can go online to spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/index.html for an interactive menu based on the country and city in which they are located.

Vike also noted a separate investigation recently after receiving numerous reports, dating back to New Year’s Eve, of bright orange lights in the sky.

“Think about it. They’re on days like July 1,” says Vike.

He has determined that the lights are actually Thai or Chinese lanterns, alternately called UFO balloons.

Commonly lit during the same special occasions that call for fireworks, the devices work much like a hot-air balloon, with a candle lit inside a globe.

The unit rises as the air in the globe warms up. From a distance, it’s quite bright and could be difficult to identify, said Vike.

A Enormous UFO Spotted In The Sky East Of Kingman Arizona

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date: November 22, 2008

Time: 1:00 or 2:00 a.m.

Location of Sighting: East of Kingman AZ.

Number of witnesses: 1

Number of objects: 1

Shape of objects: Don't know, read was a big rectangle.

Full Description of event/sighting: While moving to CA for a new job from AZ I saw a UFO on 11/22/08 driving west on the I40 near Kingman around 1:00 a.m. The back end looked like the battle cruiser in star wars, well at least the Plasma Drive. You know how it glowed with no flames?

Well this thing flew over my car with weird lights with glowing wires or something, couldn't see a shape, but the back end of the craft was giant, it looked like 6 sliding glass patio doors 3 across and 2 down and they were glowing blue white. They were vertical to the ground. Like some kind of plasma drive. Understand a big rectangle made of 6 to 8 panels perpendicular to the road moving twice as fast as I was.

This thing was very big, maybe 3 stories tall and 6 wide. it was moving in the same direction as me, west on 40 toward Kingman AZ. I pulled out my video camera and tried to tape it while I was driving. After looking at the tape, I saw a light near the ground moving at the same speed as the craft, weird, it was either that thick or had a probe moving along with it.

Oh and here is a more interesting thing. the start of the tape shows a exit sign 1 mile, the end of the tape shows the signs at the exit a mile later. I recorded the video the whole time. I was driving about 70 to 75 mph if that much while holding the camera in my right hand. I only recorded 35 sec of tape in that 1 mile. that would put me at over 100 mph. That's freaking impossible for my old car.

I'm driving a 1989 Pathfinder full of stuff moving to CA from AZ. No way could I have gone over 80 or 85 empty. So I traveled 1 mile in 35 sec. in an old car so full that my front end was pointing up and blinding oncoming cars.

I think I was in a time warp where the tape drive ran faster or slower than normal. Or that my car moved faster than normal. Or the distance got shorter.

Or time slowed down and the distance stayed the same. I don't know. But I recorded the exit sign at the beginning and the exit a mile later and the tape only shows 35 seconds of time.

Explain that on to me! By the time I got the camera out of the bag it was way out in front of me keeping a steady course. There were no cars within 2 or 3 mile behind me. None in front, don't know about oncoming at that time.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

Was That A UFO Over Loma Linda And Redlands?

Reports come in to one blogger. But the source of lights may be less than supernatural.

Mr. Vike, a blogger with The Vike Factor Into the Paranormal got reports of strange lights over our area around March 26.

The report was of several orange lights glowing over the sister towns. A reader shed some, ahem, light on the topic.

"Hello Mr. Vike, several night watchmen at my company have seen the orange light a number of times this week," the reader wrote. "We believe that Chinese lanterns are the culprit. They are being launched several times a week now from the Redlands or Loma Linda area."

I'm pretty sure I was out that night, it was a Monday night, and I don't recall seeing lights of any kind.

If any of you saw the lights, send us an email and let us know. Are they lanterns? And who is lighting them?

UFO Comes To A Stop And Moves Off Over McMinnville Oregon

Location of Sighting: 2nd Street.

Number of witnesses: 2

Shape of objects: Circular.

Full Description of event/sighting: I was driving down 2nd Street towards Adams when up in the sky a Green Circular object descended straight down really quick then stopped and in a split second took off straight forward and was gone before I could even think about what all just happened.

The truck in front of me slammed on his brakes so I am sure I am not the only person who saw the object. Before this afternoon I can honestly say I thought UFO stuff was just something people made up. Now I am positive they are for real.

UFO Researcher Sets Sights On A Sasquatch

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

By Ian Austin

The Province Newspaper.

Brian Vike believes he has photographic proof that Sasquatches really exist.

No, he doesn’t have a photo of a Sasquatch, but he does have a photo of a very large footprint.

The UFO researcher, based in the Houston area, has developed a soft spot for the mythical furry creature. Last Sunday, he got an excited call from Moricetown, about 90 kilometres north of Houston.

“I made the 90-minute drive up there, and I was amazed at what I saw,” Vike told The Province yesterday.

“I’ve been on some of those turkey runs when there’s nothing to see. But there were footprints, 17 ½ inches in length, that went on for a long ways. The stride is three feet, six inches from the front of the foot to the back of the heel.”

More tellingly for Vike, the snow around the prints appeared to be pristine. “There were no tracks around to show that somebody  was trying to pull a gag,” he said.

Vike, who tracks unidentified-flying object sightings as head of Houston B.C. Canada UFO Research, got even more excited when he found blood in one print.

“I’m sending it off for testing in Saskatchewan and Ohio. We also have a hair sample.”

Sasquatches are purportedly ape-like beings and reputedly quite shy, since they don’t seem to interact much with humans.

Like the Yeti and Ogopopgo, sightings are frequently reported, but no conclusive proof of their existence has even been found. On the other hand, conclusive proof that they don’t exist also does not exist.

Was There A Mass UFO Sighting?

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

Terrace Standard newspaper - April 2, 2003

http://www.terracestandard.com/

By Jennifer Lang.

Terrace is living up to its reputation as a UFO hot spot.

As many as 30 people may have recently witnessed two black, triangular-shaped flying objects in the Lakelse Lake area, the northwest’s resident UFO researcher has been told.

Brian Vike, field researcher and president of HBCC-UFO, is now hoping to talk to eyewitnesses to verify the report.

He also wants to find out more details like the exact time, date and description of the sighting – thought to have taken place several weeks ago.

That would help him determine what witnesses saw. A variety of known objects such as stars, planets, meteors, or aircraft can be mistaken for UFOs.

Vike learned about the sighting after someone sent him an email telling him that more than 30 people had witnessed two triangular objects in the sky.

“I’m kind of chomping at the bit – all I need is a couple of names and number to get on this,” he said from his home base in Houston, B.C. “From what I’m gathering, they’re professional people – not just kids.”

Vike is intrigued by the possibility that the sighting involves triangular-shaped objects, which are less commonly reported.

There’s been a flurry of UFO reports along the Highway 16 corridor lately.

“It’s just been non stop for the last little bit,” he said, adding he’s received eight or nine reports in the past week. “There’s something. I don’t know if it’s military. It’s a possibility.”

Another recent report from the Terrace area involved a yellow ball of light the size of a basketball spotted over a trailer in Thornhill. It moved low in the air, travelling quickly before pausing above the mountain. “Then it proceeded like a bang,” Vike says.

The recent activity suggests Terrace’s top ten showing on the 2002 Canada UFO survey may have been no fluke.

The survey counted 25 eyewitness reports from Terrace in 2002, putting us in third place overall, ahead of Houston, B.C., which is in fourth place and even ahead of major metropolitan areas like Toronto and Vancouver.

Cariboo Airspace A-Buzz With UFOs

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

By Neil Horner

© 2003 Quesnel Cariboo Observer

10-30-3

The skies above Quesnel and the rest of the Cariboo area have been relatively crowded lately, and not just with airplanes and helicopters.

In fact, says UFO researcher Brian Vike, nobody is exactly sure what they are.

In an interview from his home in Houston, B.C., Vike said he’s amazed at the number of sightings in the Cariboo over the past summer and fall.

I have been getting stuff like crazy from your area, he said. All kinds of things are happening. It’s been very busy ever since mid-July.

One incident, he said, involved some Quesnel women who said they saw an object that looked like a giant plasma ball moving slowly across the sky one night.

It took about eight seconds, which is a very long time, Vike said. They watched it from their kitchen.

In another incident, he said, a Wal-Mart employee working a late shift, saw a great big red object shoot across the heavens.

Vike said he received reports of a fireball coming down in the Quesnel area recently, which was seen from Vanderhoof to 100 Mile House.

It was very bright, very low, he said.

These are just a few of the local sightings that Vike has had reported to his web site.

I have had reports coming in about just about every shape and form of unidentified craft you can think of, from triangles to crescent shapes and cylinders, he said. I had reports of a really dark object, really low over Okanagan Lake. According to witnesses, two jets flew over just after this object went through, although that’s hard to verify.

One of the most disturbing elements of any UFO report is the possibility of missing time - where witnesses find they can’t account for several hours just after seeing something. This, too, he said, has happened in B.C. this year.

In Kelowna on July 31, two women were out star gazing and they pulled over, and got out of their vehicle. When they did, they saw three white lights come together to form a triangle and then drop out of the sky, Vike said. They tried to run, but they said it was like running through quicksand. One of them said she felt like she had been zapped with electricity, and the other agreed. They managed to get to a house, with the lights still following, and that was it.

Or was it? The women reported between 25 and 35 minutes of missing time.

Interestingly, Vike said, the women’s tale was bolstered by a report from someone else living in the area who said they could see where the ladies were and could see the lights over the highway.

In the morning, one of the two women was sitting at a table and all of a sudden said, she felt awful and then blood started trickling from her right nostril. As well, she found she had a burn mark on her tailbone that she couldn’t explain. The doctor, Vike said, suggested it looked like a radiation burn.

Those ladies went through hell with this, he said.

In another local incident, a Quesnel area resident was looking up at the stars when a number of them all of a sudden moved and fanned out in different directions.

In all, there were 150 reports of unidentified flying objects in British Columbia over the past year. That, Vike noted makes up about 50 per cent of the entire crop of UFO sightings in the entire country.

Vike has been working as a UFOlogist since mid-2000, following up a lifelong passion for astronomy. When he moved to Houston, he set up his web site and started posting some old UFO pictures, and people started calling in their reports.

One thing I would like to stress is that if people make a report, their personal information will not be given out, Vike said. This is very important.

Amateur Astronomer Just Misses Taking A Picture Of A UFO 3 Miles North Of Selma Alabama

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  Around December 1, 2010

Time:  Evening astronomical twilight.

Location of Sighting: 3 miles north of Selma Alabama.

Number of witnesses: 3 (Brothers)

Number of Objects: 1

Shape of Objects: Circular.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: My brother put his head in the door to tell my other brother and I that the International Space Station is going to make a fly over.

When we get outside, I was ask "What's that star over there", being an amateur astronomer for over twenty-five years I had immediately noticed as soon as I got out doors that Venus was conspicuously bright in the South West sky.

As high and bright as it gets I had noticed it's bright blue white color and it's position approximately forty degrees above the SW horizon along the ecliptic. I tell them what it is and continue setting up my camera and tripod. The station comes over and the evening is uneventful.

Two days later it hits me that Venus is not in the Western sky now, at that time I wasn't keeping up with the planetary positions but had been out looking at the sky a couple of days earlier. Sure enough I open my astronomy software and see that Venus is close to the Sol in the morning sky.

There I was with my camera on a tripod with a stationary UFO and didn't get any pictures. I have plenty of Pictures of Venus and waiting to get an image of the ISS I didn't want to setup my camera for Venus when the Station was about to come over.

Too bad I missed this opportunity because I could have gotten some great photos of the object all that would have been seen though would have been a light source in the night sky. I would have liked to get a look at it with my eight inch Schmidt Cassegrain scope.

Observations:

1. The Object looked stellar (outside the atmosphere).

2. The Object must have been using a lot of energy to put out that much light.

3. Position 40 degrees above SW horizon along the Ecliptic.

4. Looked exactly like Venus, Color, Brilliance were the same. It was positioned along the ecliptic.

5. Object was not Jupiter, Mars, Sirius, or any of the other bright stars around Orion,

6. Three Witnesses.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

A UFO Experience At Mt. Laguna AFS

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Brian, Enjoy reading your articles and thought I should "chime" in on the following: Re: There were also some guys who did a night time "Close Air Support" drill at Yuma Marine Air Base in Arizona who told me a great UFO Story.

If any of you who actually experienced that sighting and are reading this, please relay your story.

I had an experience while in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Mt. Laguna AFS which might be related to the above. The 751st Radar Squadron was located about 12 miles north east of Pine Valley California on the edge of the desert and mountains at about 6,000 feet elevation. The time period was in the mid 1960s, probably 1965, in the mid summer evening about 20:00.

Still light and clear skies and from that height over the clear dry desert you could sometimes see the Salton Sea. I was walking over to the "Ops" building from the AN-FPS-26 tower just as one of the "ops" officers was arriving.

He was looking east out over the desert and pointed to a light about the size of a green pea held at arms length. He asked me what did I think it was. I initially thought it was a naval military aircraft flying out in the area of the El Centro Naval Air Station which was in that direction about 45 miles east, and in the line-of-sight of Yuma, Arizona.

After about 30 seconds, the light started to strobe and change colors with green, blue, red, white and yellow. Then I didn't think it was a Navy plane because I would only expect to see green and red position lights and landing lights. I don't know if strobe lights and a white tail light were required at that time for aircraft.

I do know that Blue and Yellow were colors in the unknowns changing light scheme and those colors are not used in aviation. There were other incidents at this radar station during my tour of duty, 1965 - 1967. Some I personally experienced and some I heard from others. Very interesting times indeed.

Thank you to the gentleman for this interesting story.

A Loud Boom Was Heard And Yellow Light Seen Over Elmwood Park Illinois

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  September 5, 2010

Time:  Approxamtlty 10:15 p.m.

We saw the same thing at 10:15p.m., except ours followed by a boom after the flame and radar lights.

Additional Information:

Hello, ok here's my story, I live in Elmwood Park Illinois and I was parking my car in the driveway as I just got home.

I heard a boom and as I looked up in the sky with my girlfriend, I saw a flame -ish, yellowish light floating from south to north and then it vanished.

My girlfriend tried taking a photo of it with her camera phone, but not much came out. I am sending you the picture we tried to get.

This was on the evening of September 5th around 10:15 pm, I'm a bit confused, also still hovering in the east are bright lights, but that might be a weather radar pattern or something. Sincerely.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

A Glowing Light Shoots Across The Sky Over Kent Lake Road Michigan

Time:  6:15 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.

Location of Sighting:

Number of witnesses: 3

Number of Objects: 1

Shape of Objects: Light.

Full Description of Event/Sighting: I was driving my daughter to school and we saw a light glow in the dark sky and it shot across the sky and disappeared. We thought it was a shooting star, but it went straight.

Then when I told my husband that night, he said when he was dropping my son at work around the same area. My son saw it to, as he said it appeared and moved side to side before shooting off into the dark. It was like the back of a jet when it starts, that's how I can describe the light at first.

We live in Michigan. The sighting was on Kent Lake Road between Silver Lake Road and Grandriver that’s where we were, but it was off in the distance in the sky. Not sure if it was Brighton or South Lyon Boundary.

Thanks so much. If I was by myself  they would of never believed it!

1976 UFO Hovering Above A Field At Clovis New Mexico

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Date:  1976

Time:  Evening.

I remember this incident. At first I thought  had dreamed it until I stumbled across your website.

I was only 6 when it happened, but I remember that we pulled over on the side of the road with many other people and watched the UFO hover over a field moving in strange sideways patterns before it shot straight up into the air and disappeared.

The Clovis news journal ran a picture of it the next day if I can recall. Thanks for the web post.

Thank you to the witness for the report.

A Bright Light In UFO Tracking: Brian Vike

Brian Vike's Favorite Cases.

Newspaper Article.

Houston resident Brian Vike is one of the best-known UFO watchers in Canada.

Andrew Hudson - Jan. 8, 2012 7:00 p.m.

A boy across the street from Brian Vike’s house was tilting a new-looking telescope at the moon last Tuesday.

Chances are, he saw what any budding stargazer would expect to see—eye-popping views of the massive lava basins and colossal impact craters that scar the lunar surface.

But if Vike’s young neighbour ever spots something strange in the Houston sky, something he can’t explain, he won’t have to go far to make a UFO report.

“Just what I need,” said Vike, laughing.

Brian Vike is one of the best-known UFO watchers in Canada. Google “red orange light” or “large circular UFO” and his Vike Factor blog pops up in the top results. The site lists 1,712 sightings reports for last year alone.

“Most people, I really do believe, are genuine,” Vike said. “Their seeing something doesn’t mean it’s extraterrestrial or anything like that. But they are seeing something, and what is it?”

In one report dated New Year’s Day, a man from Duncan, B.C. told Vike that his girlfriend had repeatedly told him about the pairs of “strange orbs” she had seen glowing red and orange in the sky.

“I thought she was off her rocker until last night when I seen this myself,” he wrote to Vike. “We watched in awe trying to figure out what they could possibly be. An airplane or a helicopter always has beacon lights—these did not!”

Vike said he is scrambling to catch up on more than 300 such reports, all of which came in between Dec. 24 and Jan. 3.

“It’s amazing stuff, but most of it’s explainable,” Vike said. A lot of the glowing “orbs” turn out to be Chinese paper lanterns—thin paper lanterns that can float up hundreds of feet in the air on the heat of a tiny candle.

In fact, Vike said that lantern “sightings” have become a bit of a nuisance since more and more people in Western countries have started lighting them for weddings and holidays. Some people get a little upset to hear that their UFO sighting might be nothing more than a hot paper bag.

“You don’t want to tell too many people that because they’ll start cursing at you,” said Vike, laughing.

Standing six feet tall and wearing a plain black baseball cap, it’s hard to imagine anyone getting upset with Vike. He has a friendly, funny manner that would make him a shoe-in for one of the Lone Gunmen—the squad of amateur conspiracy busters who used to make cameos on The X-Files TV show.

But before he flies off into science fiction, Vike has to check off a list of real-world possibilities for every new UFO report. That’s the idea, he said—to try and help people discover what they saw.

Vike often starts with websites like Heavens Above, which posts real-time tracking data for satellites, the International Space Station, space shuttle flights and visible meteor passes.

On New Year’s Eve, for example, Vike got a string of UFO sightings from across Arizona, New Mexico and southern Colorado that seemed to follow in the wake of a brightly burning meteor.

Vike also tries to follow launch times at big air bases like the Vandenberg air force base in northern California.

“They’ll send up a lot of rockets, space satellites, and military hardware,” Vike said. “A lot of people are interested in that alone.”

Many people who stumble on Vike’s website report things they saw years ago. From 1993, Vike noticed a wave of sightings are most likely from people who saw F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighters flying low over North America to fight in the first Gulf War.

“I had a whole whack of reports of triangles coming in along their flight path,” he said.

Military jets, northern lights, space junk and comets—those are all sightings that even alien hopefuls aren’t likely to be disappointed in.

But Vike said it’s easy to be caught off guard by much more Earthly things.

Vike said he once a V-shaped something fly over Houston. He got pretty excited before he heard wings and realized it was a flock of geese.

“At night time, you get town or city lights and they’re low enough that the lights hit their bellies and you get that big V-shape,” he said, laughing.

Still, other reports don’t lend themselves to easy explanation.

This January, a crew from the Canadian Discovery Channel will speak with Vike on camera about a “missing time” case.

Two Kelowna women told Vike that on July 31, 2003, they were walking a dog along a lake and saw three strange lights in the sky. The lights came together in a triangle shape, they said, before dropping and hovering over the highway.

“They claim that they had missing time, and the next morning bruising, bleeding noses,” he said. “And they’ve been very sick since.”

What is really interesting about the Kelowna case, Vike said, is that it is one of many strange reports that followed the terrible number of forest fires in the Okanogan that year.

Despite slowing down a bit, and shutting down a larger website that was getting some 2.5 million hits a month, Vike is still in high demand for his UFO expertise. For years, he has fielded calls from the likes of CBC and BBC radio, the Discovery Channel and others.

“I just spent more time on this than anything else,” he said. “I think that’s why it kept moving along.”

Fifty years ago, Vike said he was just like the boy across the street, armed with a 50 mm Sears telescope from his parents and a boundless curiosity.

“Yep—I always look in the sky,” he said. “You never know what you’re going to see.”
